What is Brazilian jiu-jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the Art of technique and leverage over brute strength and force. It was created as a way for the smaller and weaker individual to manipulate and defend themselves against someone bigger and stronger. It has a heavy emphasis on limb locks and chokes and is often regarded as one of the most influential Martial Arts of the world. After the Gracie family shocked the world in the early UFC’s it lit the world aflame and the secret was out. Jiu-Jitsu was here to stay. Training is done in either Gi (Kimono) or No-gi (Shorts and Rashguard/Shirt).

Do I need to be in shape to start?

We can assure you, the best way to get in shape for Martial Arts, is to just show up. Every exercise known to man is unique to those sports movements.
